# CARGB Firmware Licence

**Tevtronix — CARGB controller firmware**

Version 1.0, 15 August 2026

This licence covers the firmware that runs on a CARGB controller, including every update Tevtronix releases for it, and the configuration dashboard the controller serves.

---

## 1. What you get

Purchase of a CARGB controller includes the right to use this firmware on that controller for as long as you own it. No subscription or further payment applies, and no functionality is reserved to a higher tier: every controller runs the complete firmware.

**Firmware updates are included for the life of the device** — not for a defined support period. Any update Tevtronix releases that your controller can run may be installed at no cost.

Differences between controller tiers are differences in hardware. Tevtronix does not implement software feature locks.

## 2. The licence

We grant you a non-exclusive, worldwide licence to use, install and re-install this firmware **on hardware manufactured and sold by Tevtronix, that you own**. This licence lasts as long as you own the device.

This firmware is licensed for use on Tevtronix hardware only. No licence is granted for use on any other hardware, however similar, and possession of a copy implies no further permission.

One exception applies: the same firmware compiled to WebAssembly and run in a web browser from tevtronix.com. A web browser is not Tevtronix hardware and is therefore outside this licence; that use is governed by the [CARGB Simulator Licence](https://tevtronix.com/license/simulator).

You may:

- install, run and re-install the firmware on your own controllers
- configure it in any way the firmware permits
- keep your own copies of firmware images for your own devices
- have somebody else — an installer, a workshop, a friend — do any of the above on your behalf

You may not:

- run this firmware on any hardware other than hardware manufactured and sold by Tevtronix, including hardware built to be compatible with it
- build, have built, or help anyone else build hardware to run it on
- distribute, sell, sublicense or publish the firmware, or copies of it
- remove or alter the licensing, attribution or device-identity information it carries

## 3. The licence follows the device

This licence attaches to the controller rather than to the purchaser. **On sale or transfer of the device, the licence passes to the new owner**, who receives the rights set out here in full. No permission from Tevtronix is required and no notification is necessary, although transferring the device within your Tevtronix account allows the new owner to receive updates and support without further verification.

Correspondingly, the licence does not remain with you once the device is transferred.

## 4. Devices reported stolen

Where a device is reported stolen by its registered owner, Tevtronix may suspend that device's light output. All other functions continue to operate. The suspension is lifted when the report is withdrawn or the device is returned to its registered owner.

This measure is intended to remove the resale value of stolen equipment.

If you have acquired a device that is subject to a report, contact Tevtronix. Ownership cannot be transferred away from a registered owner without their authority, but Tevtronix would prefer to be informed.

## 5. Reverse engineering, repair and interoperability

Nothing in this licence removes a right conferred by law. Where legislation permits reverse engineering for interoperability, error correction, security research or repair, this licence does not prohibit it and Tevtronix will not treat it as a breach.

Otherwise, the firmware may not be decompiled or reverse engineered for the purpose of reproducing it or developing a competing product.

Security issues should be reported to Tevtronix before disclosure elsewhere. Contact details are published on the website.

## 6. Third-party components

This firmware includes open-source components licensed by their authors, mostly under the MIT and Apache-2.0 licences. Those components remain under their own licences, which sit above this one where they conflict.

The notices those licences require are published in full at https://tevtronix.com/license/third-party, and included as `THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.md` in the source and in every release package. They are not carried on the controller itself: the notices run to several megabytes against a four-megabyte application image, so the device points at them rather than storing them.

## 7. Limitations and responsibilities

This product is decorative lighting for a motor vehicle.

**You are responsible for compliance with the road traffic and vehicle lighting laws applying where the vehicle is used.** Those laws vary by state and by country, and some configurations this firmware permits are not lawful on a public road in every jurisdiction. Tevtronix does not restrict the firmware's capabilities and does not assess the legality of any particular configuration.

This product must not be relied upon for any safety-critical purpose. It does not form part of a vehicle's required lighting, and must not be fitted or configured so as to obscure, imitate or interfere with a brake light, indicator, hazard warning, motorsport rain light, or any other mandatory or approved lamp. Those are approved devices performing a defined function, and approval attaches to the device rather than to the light it emits — no configuration of this product makes it one.

Except as provided in section 8, and to the extent permitted by law, the firmware is supplied as is and Tevtronix is not liable for indirect or consequential loss.

## 8. Australian Consumer Law

**Our goods and services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law.** For major failures you are entitled to a replacement or refund, and to compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if they are not of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.

Nothing in this licence excludes, restricts or modifies those guarantees, or any equivalent statutory right you have where you live. Where any part of this licence conflicts with them, the guarantees win and that part does not apply.

## 9. Ending the licence

This licence terminates when you cease to own the device, or on a breach that is not remedied following notice from Tevtronix. Termination does not affect the rights of a subsequent owner of a device you have transferred, and does not affect your rights under section 8.

## 10. Governing law

This licence is governed by the law of Victoria, Australia. This does not deprive you of the protection of consumer law in your country of residence.
